There are occasional snorers who snore rarely in their life for variety of reasons. But basically snoring occurs as a result of the vibrations caused by the relaxed soft tissues that are hanging from the roof of the mouth and back to the throat. These tissues block airflow and it is difficult to stop snoring, in fact.

The relaxed tissues vibrate when the person breathes and the vibrations cause loud noise called snoring. If the uvula that is a triangular part seen on the roof of the mouth back to throat is swollen, there is chance of snoring.

Loud snoring disturbs not only the sleep of the snorer, but also that of the bed partner's. In addition to it, loud snoring is a symptom of some other diseases as sleep apnea and the side effects are lack of concentration on work during day time and drowsiness and exhaustion even after eight hours of sleep.

It is wise that you call your physician and tell him that the medication that you are taking before bedtime is preventing you from sleeping. There are other medications that cause you to go to bathroom at night more than once, so you can ask your physician to make adjustments in that medication.

Sleep apnea is caused by the relaxed soft tissues that block partially the airway and this disturbs the person to wake up often in the sleep. Snorer stops snoring suddenly and grasps to breathe. The snorer may not be aware that he or she suffers from such problem and disturbance that one meets during sleep.

Grasping for breathe causes loss of oxygen and sleep apnea may lead to heart attacks and strokes. People who are suffering from sleep apnea must take care and get doctor's suggestion immediately. Analysis must be done in sleep lab to know deeper about the sleep apnea and the kind of treatment it needs to quit snoring.

Normally, a breathing device is worn during sleep and to see constant and free airflow.

There are dental appliances and head gears modeled with the view to giving chance to widen the free passage of airflow. Nasal strips are best devices to keep open the nasal passages and this will not help to quit snoring.
