Hypersomnia:Information, Symptoms and Causes

Hypersomnia is an excessive amount of sleepiness, resulting in an inability to stay awake.

Even though hypersomniacs sleep more than is considered necessary (or even healthy) at night, they may still need to take frequent naps during the day.

Symptoms

The symptoms of Hypersomnia are simply excessive sleepiness.

Causes

Hypersomnia can be caused by a range of factors, such as:

  • Being overweight
  • Heredity / Family History
  • Brain damage
  • Depression

There are a lot of people who are having trouble sleeping at night and when questioned it was found out that these people are taking naps during the day. If you are taking a nap during the day then you are just disturbing your sleep wake cycle. If you are taking naps during the day and are suffering from not being able to sleep at night then you must know that it might be due to the nap that you are taking and it is something that you must avoid to better your sleep hygiene.
