Stop Snoring - Understanding It First

Snoring is a breathing sound emitted while sleeping and it is caused by the air which flows through the nose and the larynx. The noise is produced by the existence of an obstacle (at the level of the nose, oral cavity or throat). If snoring is noisy it is possible to be related to a more serious medical problem. A very serious problem associated with snoring is the affection called obstructive apnea while sleeping and which, in extreme cases, can endanger life when breathing stops during sleep between 10 seconds and 1 minute, sometimes more time. Snoring can be a factor which contributes to high blood pressure, to cardiovascular diseases, to memory problems, sexual dysfunctions and headaches.

Patients who can’t rest because of snoring have sometimes problems at work and they can be dangerous on the move, while driving. You can stop snoring having a healthy diet. This is the case of overweight men. Most of the women who snore have faced menopause. Weight loss often triggers snoring stop. When a person with average snoring loses weight, it becomes less noisy and in the case of some people it really disappears.

Avoid drinking alcohol before sleeping. If you drink alcohol before going to sleep, snoring will intensify. Alcohol relaxes all the muscles which vibrate in the pharynx. The quantity has its relevance as well. If you drink a lot, you will snore more. Don’t take sleeping pills. Sleeping pills help you sleep but will keep your partner awake. Any demarche which relaxes tissues in the head and neck area will most probably intensify snoring.

Give up smoking. In general, smokers snore. This phenomenon is due to the fact that smoking provokes the inflammation of pharynx tissues, amplifying their chances to vibrate and to provoke snoring.

Random Sleeping Tip
If you are going through different clinical conditions and you have to take the medication on a regular basis such as diabetes etc. then you need to make sure that you schedule your medication regimen at such times that just does not disturb your sleep patterns. So it is best that you take your medicines before you go to bed and at the time when you wake up. If your medication regimen is disturbing your sleep wake cycle then you must contact your physician to help you out with that.

Change your sleeping position. Don’t sleep on your back even if those who snore noisily do it practically in any position. But those who snore moderately do it while sleeping on their back. Try the old trick with the tennis ball. In order not to turn on your back while sleeping you can sew a small pocket on the back of your pajama and you can put in it a tennis ball. When you try to roll over on your back, this object will create discomfort and unconsciously you will get back to lateral position.

Don’t use a pillow! Any object which prevents your neck stay straight makes you snore more noisily.

Treat your allergies. Sneezing and snoring are related. Sneezing can appear as a result of an allergy or cold. When snoring is intermittent, you can use a nasal decongesting product, but no more than a few days, in order to avoid ricochet congestion.

Saline nasal drops can remove light congestion and they can be used for more time. Dissolve 1 teaspoon of salt and 1 sodium bicarbonate powder in 300 ml warm water. Put the solution in a bottle with a dripper and introduce a few drops in each nostril. If you snore during the allergic rhinitis period, use nasal spray with steroids all this time.
